Max Kendall started his real estate career through his job a Merchants Bank. The bank was primarily focused on residential mortgages.
As a young VP in the mortgage loan department, Max pushed to build the commercial mortgage portfolio of the bank.
After becoming frustrated with management’s lack of commitment to expanding the commercial mortgage department, Max and a partner formed the Mortgage Company of Indiana.
They built the company to be one of the largest commercial mortgage brokerages in Indiana and then sold it to Merchants Bank in 1984.
After riding out a non-compete agreement and a stint with a commercial property management and brokerage firm, Max decided that wanted to develop properties for himself.
He determined that the most successful developers that he knew were their own general contractors.
He formed Kendall Construction to build his projects.
Out of necessity, he grew it to be a third-party general contractor to help fund his personal projects.
After building everything from custom homes to self-storage facilities to hotels for himself and clients, Max exited the third-party construction business in 2000 and only built projects that he owned.
J.R. Kendall joined the company in 2005, and after a few years of developing both commercial and residential projects, Max and J.R. decided to specialize in multifamily development.
Max and J.R. have developed over 2000 units together.
Today as President of Kendall Property Group, J.R. manages the daily operations while Max is involved as an owner and resource for advice when needed.
